QQI Care Skills

The QQI Level 5 Care Skills course (Module 5N2770) is designed to equip learners with the practical skills and knowledge needed to provide safe, person-centered care. It is  designed to provide learners with the knowledge, skills and competence required to deliver safe, effective and person-centered care within a variety of healthcare settings. On successful completion, learners will be equipped to work confidently in care roles that involve supporting clients with personal and daily living needs.

On successful completion of the QQI Level 5 Care Skills (5N2770) module, learners will be able to:

• • Identify the needs of individuals requiring care, recognising the physical, emotional, social, psychological and spiritual needs of a range of client groups.
  • Deliver safe and hygienic personal care, including assisting with hygiene, dressing, grooming, eating, drinking, toileting, continence care, mobility and the prevention of pressure sores.
  • Promote safety and maintain care environments, applying correct procedures for infection prevention and control, safe disposal of soiled materials, equipment cleaning, and safe moving and handling practices.
  • Support client dignity and independence, adapting levels of assistance to individual needs and encouraging participation in social, occupational and therapeutic activities.
  • Use effective interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrating empathy, respect and patience when interacting with clients and working as part of the healthcare team.
  • Assist with care equipment and documentation, supporting clients in the safe use of mobility aids and other assistive devices, reporting changes in condition appropriately, and completing relevant client records.

All Care skills  learning outcomes must be assessed:

Skills Demonstration 60% – As part of the Care Skills  module, a skills demonstration is used to assess a wide range of practical based learning outcomes including practical skills and knowledge. A skills demonstration will require the learner to complete a task or series of tasks that demonstrate a range of skills
Project 40% – A project is a response to a brief devised by the assessor. A project is usually carried out over an  period of time. Projects may involve research, require investigation of a topic, issue or problem or may involve process such as a design task, a performance or practical activity or production of an artefact or event
