This advanced-level course prepares students for the vibrant, creative, and constantly evolving world of fashion design. It fosters innovation, technical proficiency, and a deep understanding of the fashion industry, from concept development to garment realisation. Students will explore both the creative and commercial aspects of fashion, building a portfolio that reflects individuality, craftsmanship, and professional design standards.
The course promotes awareness of current industry trends, sustainability in design, and the importance of strong visual presentation and communication skills. You will engage in creative research, produce initial design ideas, and learn how to refine and develop these concepts into professionally finished garments.
Students have access to fashion studios and workshops, equipped with industry-standard manufacturing machinery. You will receive hands on guidance from experienced tutors and visiting contemporary fashion designers, ensuring that your creative and technical skills meet professional expectations.
Throughout the course, students will work on individual design projects and culminate their studies by producing a personal fashion collection for the end-of-year show. This final showcase highlights your ability to integrate concept, design, and technical execution — demonstrating mastery in pattern drafting, garment construction, and finishing techniques.
Applicants should hold a QQI Level 5 qualification in Fashion or an Art & Design–related discipline.
Mature and postgraduate students are warmly welcomed.
All applicants will be invited to meet with a member of the fashion team to discuss their suitability for the course. You will be contacted with details regarding the date, time, and location of your meeting.
