Construction Management is a professional field that focuses on each part of the construction process of any built environment. It typically encompasses commercial building sites or multi-unit residential sites. Construction Management of the site may be maintained by a general contractor or a separate entity, and the construction management personnel or company answers to the developer and is responsible for overseeing every aspect of the project from start to finish. The B.Sc. in Construction Management is a degree programme offered via online distance learning over a period of 2 years part time. The programme is specifically designed to facilitate industry professionals including; Engineers, Architects, Technicians, Foremen, Qualified Carpentry and Joinery Craft persons, or other Qualified level 6 construction industry professionals. The programme prepares graduates to assume technical, management, academic and research and development level positions within in the construction industry. ATU Sligo has partnered with the Construction Federation of Ireland (CIF) to provide this training programme and CIF members can avail of a 10% discount on fees. The programme is also internationally accredited by the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB). Programme Structure The course is delivered over two years. The course consists of twelve subject modules - three per semester and learners may take as few modules as they wish and complete the programme over a number of years to suit their own circumstances. The Construction Management programme at ATU Sligo now has students based in 10 different countries - testament to our claim to provide flexible, accessible learning at a time and location that suits you. Professionally qualified and experienced Civil Engineers, Architects and Quantity Surveyors will teach the various modules which are summarised on the following pages. The programme includes a significant amount of on-line testing in each of the modules and the objective of the final written and practical examinations is to ensure the validity of the on-line test results. Written examinations will be held in the Institute (or at alternative approved examination centre) at the end of each semester. | Entry Requirements | Applicants should hold a Higher Certificate Level 6 in a construction related discipline. Those who do not meet the direct entry requirement but have significant industry experience or a Senior Craft Certificate (merit award) and industry experience may seek entry through RPL. Graduates who have not obtained this minimum may incorporate other equivalent qualifications and relevant work experience and apply for assessment via the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process. RPL is a process that may allow you to gain admission to a programme or to receive exemptions / credit from some parts of a programme based on demonstrated learning that you may have achieved through another programme of study or through your work or career.
