The purpose of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to work independently or with others to formulate a range of creative skills and processes for the production of documentaries. This is a classroom based course
Programme Description:
Learners will be able to: • General history of documentary film making and key documentary filmmakers and exploring the various styles of documentary filmmaking • Identify good subjects and topics and lead a comprehensive research of a chosen topic, organise this in an efficient manner, using both primary and secondary sources while using best practice with regard to fact checking, proofing, referencing and ethics • Understand procedures of ordering screening copy and master footage with basic understanding concepts of rights, clearance principles relating to archive, externally sourced footage with relation to general information broadcasters require in terms of rights • Work effectively part of a production team to produce a short documentary film in a defined role such as Director, Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Sound Recordist, and Production Assistant • Interview Techniques
