Stanislavski: Two-Day Intensive Workshop
Led by Elizabeth Moynihan (Actor & Writer)
Saturday, January  10th and 17th. Booked out.
€150 (inclusive of both days)

Take your acting to the next level in this dynamic two-day workshop focused on the Stanislavski Method. Perfect for actors with some experience, this immersive course will provide you with the tools to unlock the emotional depth and authenticity in your performances. Led by seasoned actor and writer Elizabeth Moynihan, you'll gain instant, practical knowledge of Stanislavski’s approach—without the hassle of wading through complex texts or poor translations.

This workshop is ideal for actors who are ready to refine their craft, deepen their emotional connection to their characters, and engage in practical, hands-on work that will elevate their performances. Whether you're looking to explore new techniques or rediscover your passion for acting, you'll leave with powerful tools to apply to your future work.

What’s Covered:

  • The Evolution of Stanislavski through The Actors Studio: Understand how Stanislavski's system evolved in America and its lasting impact on modern acting, particularly through The Actors Studio in New York.
  • Classic Stanislavski Warm-Up: Start each session with a focused and effective warm-up, designed to prepare your mind and body for deep, truthful work on stage.
  • The Magic “If”: Explore this powerful technique, which encourages actors to ask “What if?”—a question that opens up a world of possibilities for character exploration and allows you to approach any role with fresh insight.
  • Core Stanislavski Exercises: Dive into essential exercises that will enhance your understanding of your character’s motivations and the emotional truth of your scenes. These include:
    • Loggerheads & Improv: Harness the power of improvisation to explore spontaneous reactions and interactions.
    • Justification of an Action: Learn how to ground every physical or emotional action in your character's inner world.
    • Room Recall: Develop the skill of vividly recalling your scene environment to enhance your performance.
    • Portrait: Build your character's backstory and personality through focused exploration.
    • Moment Before: Explore the key moments leading up to the scene, helping you prepare for emotional transitions.
    • Inner Monologues: Tap into the rich inner life of your character to guide your actions and reactions on stage.
  • Building a Character: Learn how to create fully-realised characters by understanding their objectives, obstacles, and inner drives. This includes an exploration of the Hot Seating technique, where you’ll answer questions from fellow actors to deepen your understanding of your character’s psychology.
  • Scene Study: Apply your new tools in practical scene work. You’ll bring one or two monologues or duologues (film or theatre) to the workshop, where Elizabeth will work with you to refine your performance using the Stanislavski techniques.
  • Overcoming Negative Habits & Building Confidence: Identify any personal blocks that might be limiting your performance and develop strategies to stay connected to your emotions and instincts, building confidence in your ability to stay “in the moment.”
  • Creating Your Own Work: Discover how to apply the Stanislavski Method to the creation of original material, giving you the tools to craft meaningful performances, whether for stage or screen.

What to Bring:
Please bring 1-2 monologues or duologues (film or theatre) to work on throughout the weekend.
